The Concerned Citizens of Spencer County are having their Initial FUNDRAISER on Saturday, January 27th, 2024.
The goal of this fundraiser is to sell enough Chicken Dinners, so that we can use the proceeds to pay attorney fees, in our attempt to block the construction of the Grandview Solar Project.
The primary reason we are attempting to stop this Commercial Solar Development is because they plan on building it on land that is located OUTSIDE the corporate limits of Grandview, without the permission of the county commissioners or within the limits of the Spencer County Zoning Boards Solar Ordinance.
This project initially started (secretively) signing leases of farmland in 2016.
In December of 2019, the Grandview Town Board and the Grandview Zoning Board, approved the construction of the solar project.
While it is legal within the State of Indiana for towns to have a two mile buffer zone, outside of their corporate limits, they MUST file a request and be approved by the County.
In the case of Grandview, they NEVER had the permission from Spencer County AND never elected board members that would represent the residents living within a two mile radius of the town.
As such, the town never had the legal authority to approve this construction.
Fast forward ahead a couple of years and the solar project was SOLD to another company. When the new company tried to get one final approval from the town of Grandview, so they could start construction, the town board, (having discovered they did not have the legal right to approve the project) declined to approve the final ILP.
At this point, the New Solar Company filed a lawsuit against the Town of Grandview for $30 million.
Eventually the New Solar Company offered the Town of Grandview $650,000 if they would file the ILP.
The town agreed, in spite of not having the legal authority.
So, the citizens that live within three miles of where this solar project is wanting to build their project, have hired an attorney in order to take legal action, that will protect their property values, health, community and legal rights as Spencer County Taxpaying Citizens.
In order to pay these attorney fees, we are asking others to show up at the Grandview Civic Center between the hours of 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM on Saturday and purchase a Chicken Dinner, complete with ½ a chicken, creek fries, baked beans, desert and a drink for only $15.00.
The profits from this dinner will be used to pay the legal fees for our fight.
We realize one dinner is not going to cover the massive amount of attorney fees it will take to fight a large solar developer from Washington D.C. that has their own lobbyist and will be able to use taxpayer money to cover a major part of their expenses.
Therefore it is our intention to hold additional fund raisers as needed, to continue fighting to protect Spencer County as well as other Indiana Rural residents.
Because, if we loose this fight, then every rural resident in the state is at risk of having industrial companies come in and build any type of industry next door to their homes, without the legal permission from their county.
We will also be accepting cash donations from anyone interested in stepping up to fight back against this type of illegal actions.
Thank you and we hope to see you this coming Saturday.
